Heart-Healthy Factory

  • YMCA 2 Broadway Valhalla, NY, 10595 United States (map)

Step into the Heart-Healthy Factory, a fun and interactive event where kids learn how to take care of their hearts through stories, creativity, and movement! This engaging experience is designed to help children understand healthy habits in an age-appropriate, hands-on way.

The event begins with Storytime, where kids gather to enjoy a book all about heart health, introducing why our hearts are important and how healthy choices help them stay strong.

Next, children head to the Heart-Healthy Lunchbox Lab, where they become “nutrition designers.” Using paper cutouts, kids create model meal boxes by choosing heart-healthy foods and gluing or taping them onto a template. They can design a lunchbox—or mix it up by building a breakfast, dinner, or even a heart-smart dessert—learning that healthy choices fit into every meal.

At the Happy Heart Fitness Circuit, kids get moving in small, guided groups. Through fun activities like jumping jacks, jump rope, marching, and dancing, they experience how physical activity helps the heart. Before and after exercising, children learn how to feel their heartbeat by placing a hand on their chest or wrist, noticing how their heart works harder when they move.

Finally, kids collaborate on the Rainbow Foods Mural, a large group art activity celebrating colorful, heart-healthy foods. In small groups, children rotate through colors—red, orange, yellow, green, and blue/purple—drawing and coloring as many foods of each color as they can think of. By the end, the mural is filled with a vibrant rainbow of nutritious foods that support a healthy heart.

The Heart-Healthy Factory combines learning, creativity, and movement to show kids that taking care of their hearts can be fun, colorful, and exciting!
